Creative Dream Analysis:
A Guide to Self-Development
Every night you go to sleep and without fail, you begin to dream. Now, if you’re like most
people, you don’t pay much attention to your dreams. However, did you ever wonder
why you have your dreams?
It’s been my experience that every dream has a purpose in your life. How do I know?
What Makes You a Dream Expert?
Most people pay very little attention to their dreams. Yet I firmly believe that your
dreams contain a wealth of information, the like of which you have probably not even
imagined. How do I know? I’ve been studying dreams for nearly 50 years. I’ve taught
classes and seminars on dreams for over 40 years. I’ve given speeches, held seminars,
and given consultations on dreams.
How I Started
Of course, I wasn’t always an expert on dreams. While I was in college, I just happened
to stumble upon the tip of the iceberg on the power in our dreams. You see, as a senior
year engineering student, I had three engineering exams to take on a single day. I was
tired from studying and it was nearly 4:00 am. I had to get some sleep in order to be in
any shape to take my exams. Out of desperation, I just reviewed my notes and the
many formulas they contained and collapsed in bed.
Then I began to dream. I dreamed that I was working on my engineering problems. I
began solving one problem after another. I continued solving them for what seemed like
days. When I awoke, I remembered how to solve the problems I had been working on.
With the solutions in mind, I rushed out of the house to take my exams. I was glad when
I passed all my exams.
I was not long after graduating that I found out that help from my dreams was not a fluke
experience. It was more than a happenstance that occurs just once in a person’s
lifetime. As an engineer, I wondered of there was a way to capitalize on my dreams. I
found that my dreams were able to do many things, things that I never thought were
possible.
Not “Woo-Woo”
Before you think that dreams are a “woo-woo” topic, you should take the time to listen to
what I am describing here. You see, I’m an engineer. Engineers are very practical
people. We use what works and discard what doesn’t work. It’s been my experience that
dreams absolutely work.
As a communication engineer, I’ve used my dream to solve problems. I was also a
nuclear weapons engineer. I was the reliability and vulnerability engineer for the Polaris,
Poseidon, and Trident warheads on nuclear submarines. I’ve used my dreams to solve
problems that no one else could solve.
Of course, I found it difficult to convince most technical people that their dreams were
worth listening to. For them, this was a little too far out. They actually made fun on the
topic. When I asked one of the engineers what they thought their dreams did, he said
that dreams were nothing more than entertainment while people slept.
Dreams are an Effective Tool
Take a moment and look at your professional and personal life. Are there areas where
answers and solutions from your dreams help you? Could you benefit from having an
insight into some of the people in your life? If you answer is yes, then this is important
for you to read.
I found dreams to be so effective that I began analyzing the dreams of other people. In
the beginning, it was quite difficult. However, with years of practice and having analyzed
thousands of dreams, I got very good at it. I then began teaching others how to use their
dreams to help them on the road of their personal development. For years, I taught a
dream presentation twice a month at the exclusive Canyon Ranch in Tucson, Arizona.
There I found a unique difference between the very successful people who visited
Canyon Ranch and the general public. Back then, only about 20% of the people in the
general public have had dreams that helped them in their work or personal lives. When I
asked the people at Canyon Ranch how many of them used their dreams in their work,
about 50-80% of the people raised their hands. They shared how they used their
dreams to solve problems and to gain insights into difficult situations. Some were
authors who used their dreams to help them write their novels.
The executives had other stories. A few would have a pad next to their bed so they
could write down notes when they awoke. Others reported that while they did not
remember their dreams upon waking, they recalled them later. Often, it happened while
they were in the shower or while driving to work. They found it a little difficult to write
down their dreams under those circumstances. I recommended that they have a little
voice recorder nearby that they could use to record their dreams and ideas.
Research into Dreams
When I started to do my research on dreams, I naturally found out about Jung. After
reading his material and trying to apply it, I found it to be very difficult to use. In fact, I
soon decided that Jung’s was really useless in interpreting dreams. The way I was using
to analyze people’s dreams was a lot more useful. So I decided to formulate and create
a new method. Based on my experiences working with many people, I got together with
a few friends who were also great at gaining insights. With their help, I created my
present method of analyzing dreams. The key to my method was to create a system
based on helping people to go through the changes in their lives.
Beyond Jung
Of course, I needed a new dictionary. I needed one that was based on what I had found
was effective. It took years to create the entire dictionary, but I found it work beautifully.
What I discovered was a system that allows anyone to interpret not only their dreams,
but the dreams of others.
The key to my dictionary was to have two kinds of symbols. I called the first “universal
symbols.” These were symbols that applied to everyone. For instance, the color “red”
had about the same general meaning for most people. Unfortunately, the system I
developed was most accurate for Americans, since most of the people I worked with
were Americans. These symbol definition seems to also hold very true for most English
speaking countries, such as Canada, England, New Zealand, and Australia.
While most of my definitions held true internationally, there were some that were not.
For instance, the colors red and white had a different meaning in China. Even with
these differences, what I developed can still be used internationally. You just have to
take your time and be aware of the obvious differences, as in the colors of red and
white.
The other symbols were the ones that differed for each person. I called these “personal
symbols.” Therefore, your Uncle Ted has a different meaning in your dream than your
sister who also dreams of Uncle Ted. These are personal symbols because Uncle Ted
means different things to you or to your sister. I showed people how to develop their
own dictionary of their personal symbols as these symbols came up in their dreams.
Write a Book
Even though I was sharing my dream knowledge with a lot of people, I wanted to reach
more people. I wanted to reach people who I’ve never met. The only way to do that was
to write a book.
Back then, writing a book was not really what I did best. I had no knowledge what it took
to write a book. Of course, I had already read over a thousand books. I should be able
to put a book together in short order. I took out my notes, which went back over 10
years, and started to write. Surely, with those notes, writing a book would be a cinch.
So I started writing my book on a typewriter. I read it and it was not good. So after
making a lot of major edits, I retyped it. When I read it, it was not what I really wanted to
say. Of course, at that time, I was working long hours, having kids at home, and not
much discretionary time. So this process continued for years. It was not until I co-owned
a publishing company that I got to the point that I was ready to publish my book.
The editor took my book and did some major redlining in it. After making the corrections,
it was more redlining. However, through all of that, the gist of the information remained
true.
When the book was finally published, I knew I had accomplished something worthwhile.
This would be a wonderful key that allows people to unleash the wisdom held within. It
would finally allow them to excel and succeed.
The Book
My book, Creative Dream Analysis: A Guide to Personal Development is about to go
into its third printing. Once people realize what it offers, they gobble it up. They can't
resist discovering the great intelligence they have inside of them.
So what will this book do for you? Well, consider the following possibilities:
•
Solutions to your problems. Over the years, I've had many problems that were
difficult to solve. As an engineer, life was about solving problems. There were
always problems cropping up, often requiring an innovative solution. In fact, the
life of an engineer is finding solutions to problems encountered at work.
If you wish to get ahead in the work world, you need to be able to solve problems.
If you are one of those who simply sit back and wait for someone else to fix a
problem, it will be difficult for you to get ahead. Positions of leadership and
management require people who are able to see problems and challenges, then
take appropriate action to solve them.
•
Answers your questions. In life, you will often be confronted with multiple
choices, each of which has its merits and demerits. The choice you make may be
important or even critical to your career or your future success. Where will you go
to find the answers you need.
Your dreams can help you here. You can ask your dreams for an answer and it'll
give you one. Of course, you must temper your dream solution with a little
common sense. If you dream that you jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge, you
should not take that as guidance. The dream truly has a deeper meaning.
I had a woman who had just taken my dream course. After the class she
explained that she was in real estate. She was debating which of two properties
she should purchase. I told her to ask her dream.
I saw her the next day. She said that she had a dream of a house by the water. I
asked her if one of the properties she was considering was near any water. She
said yes and left. It was not until months later when she came up to me and said
that the choice was the right one.
•
New Marketing and Sales Tactics. I co-authoring a book on professional
speaking, The Business of Successful Speaking: Proven Secrets to Becoming a
Million Dollar Speaker. We were marketing it primarily to speakers. I was
wondering who else would find this book useful. In my dream, I was shown that
authors needed this book. After all, authors need to sell their book. What better
way to sell your book than to be a professional speaker. You get paid to talk about
your book-then you can sell it in the back of the room. If fact, a professional
speaker is sometimes able to pre-sell their book to everyone in the meeting.
•
Creative ideas. As the CEO of a trade book publishing company, I thought I
wanted to write a couple of children's books. So I decided to use my dreams to
write the books for me. The first one, Jason's Journey into the Rainbow, took two
night's sleep to write. That seemed easy enough. I thought I would try it again.
This time, it only took a single night to accomplish the job. The next morning I
wrote Jason in the Land of the Dragons.
Later, I decided to write some children's audio books. Of course, I needed some
music and a song to go with them. So I slept on it. The next morning I got up with
the music and the words. Of course, I did not know how to write a musical score.
So my wife picked up a tape recorder and told me to sing the song into it. We took
the song down to a musician and he created the music for us.
There are so many other uses for your dreams. You could use it to gain insights into
situations, either at work or in your personal life. You could search out new income
sources through your dreams. The possibilities are endless, based only on your
imagination and ability to put it into action.

The Four Types of Dreams
There are four different types of dreams a person may have. These dream types are:
•
Clearance Dreams
•
Guidance Dreams
•
Psychic Dreams
•
Active Dreams
Clearance Dreams
Your clearance dreams are often about the events of the day. For instance, suppose
you had an argument with your significant other. If you go to bed with the argument
unresolved, you will most likely dream about the incident. Of course, your significant
other may not look like him- or herself. Instead, they may appear as a different person.
However, you will be able to see that the interaction will be very similar to what
happened in real life.
Clearance dreams allow you to release the stress from the day. They replicate the
situation that created your stress and allow you to take the right action in your dreams to
remove the emotional stress. With the stress gone, it allows you to quickly enter into a
restful sleep.
Guidance Dreams
Guidance dreams do just that, they give you advice on what you should and should not
do. If you go to bed with a problem in your mind, your dreams may begin to work on
finding a solution. Unfortunately, dreams are often shown in symbols. Interpreting these
symbols is the problem that most people run into. When people have dreams of a cat,
or a fish, or even Uncle George, they usually try to guess what these symbols mean.
To help people with this, I’ve provided an extensive dictionary of symbols. Using the
dictionary, you will be able to understand what the dream is saying to you.
Psychic Dreams
These dreams catch the interest of most people. Of course, there are those who say
that they have never had any psychic dream. When I’m speaking on the topic of
dreams, I’ll ask the audience if they have had any deja vous experiences. When most of
the attendees agree, I’ll ask them where they saw that incident or place before. I’ll then
tell them that it was probably in a dream.
The sleeping prophet, Edgar Cayce, was known for his accuracy. He once said that
every significant event in a person’s life will be previewed by a dream. Wow! Imagine
getting a glimpse of what is going to happen to you. If you pay attention to your dreams,
you will get to see the important events in your life before they happen.
Active or Lucid Dreams
Finally, everyone has active of lucid dreams. These are dreams that allow you to
become aware that you are aware of being in a dream. While this sounds impossible,
there are so many recorded cases of different cultures that do this on a regular basis.
It’s a standard practice of Buddhist monks who use this practice to make changes to
improve the world. Whether you believe in this or not, if it really is happening to you, you
could use that as an exciting adventure.
Creativity and Innovation
Of course, the use of dreams does not stop here. I have met numerous authors who
use their dreams to create the stories in their novels. I myself have used my dreams to
write and publish two children’s books. One book took two dreams to write while the
other took a single night of dreaming. When you read my book, you’ll realize that the
possibilities being made available through your dreams are endless.
I’ve also used my dreams to solve technical problems. As a communication engineer
and as a nuclear weapons engineer, I have used my dreams to solve several very
difficult problems.
I’ve also given speeches on dreams, interpreting attendee’s dreams on the spot. I’ve
been on television and radio, instantly interpreting dreams to astounded listeners.
